Colt Starting in Tennessee

Learning how to safely start a colt will take a larger focus at the 2022 Walkabout Tours presented by Ritchie Industries. On the first day of the events, Clinton will work with one of his Professional Clinicians to demonstrate how he prepares a horse to be ridden for the first time. An unstarted horse from the area will be brought to the tour for Clinton and his clinician to work with. During the training session, they’ll explain how to earn the horse’s respect and trust through a series of groundwork exercises and then how to introduce the saddle and build the horse’s confidence wearing it. If the horse is ready, they’ll put the first ride on him.

On the second day of the event, the same colt will be brought out for a second demonstration that will focus on how to continue to progress a horse’s training. While his Professional Clinician works with the colt, Clinton will explain the importance of keeping lessons simple and building the horse’s confidence.

The horse used for the demonstrations will be between the ages of 2 and 10 and will not have been saddled or ridden prior to the event. We are currently accepting applications for a horse for Clinton to work with at our Franklin, Tennessee Walkabout Tour that will be held at the Williamson County Ag Expo Park. To fill out an application, visit our website. Please note that the selection process takes place a few weeks before the April 2nd and 3rd event and only applicants whose horses are being considered for the demonstration will be contacted.
