Find It On the No Worries Club: Stopping Lead Rope Chewing

NWCfind

You tie your horse up and grab your brushes to start grooming him. As soon as you turn your back, he dives for the lead rope, grabs it between his lips and sucks it into his mouth. You watch in dismay as he rolls the rope around in his mouth two or three times, spits it out and then picks it up again. From experience, you know he’s content to continue the charade until he succeeds in chewing through yet another lead rope or you untie him and begin your training session.

If you’ve ever worked with a young horse, that’s a scenario you’ve likely experienced. In the fall 2019 No Worries Journal article, Stopping Lead Rope Chewing,” Clinton addresses the issue and explains how he handles the situation with his horses.
